A 30 to 45 minute appointment is allotted for each case when a full history is taken and clinical examination carried out.
Following this, further investigation and/or treatment options are discussed including the relative merits and the costs involved. For urgent cases, it is usually possible to arrange a referral the same day.

Most cases for investigation will be expected to stay at the Hospital for several hours. In some cases they may have to stay for several days – such as in the acute management of a cardio-respiratory crisis. Ideally the dogs and cats should not be fed on the day of referral.

The refering veterinary surgeon will receive a full and thorough case report including all aspects of the investigation and recommendations for treatment and monitoring. Such a report, preceded by an interim verbal telephone notification, if appropriate, may be expected within a week.
